Playing with circles and scrolly natural lines, I was manipulating color, movement, and rhythm to give a floating feeling. I think the lines come from observation and the circles are like thoughts about what I have observed.
Influenced by nature, Catherine Gruetzke-Blais works in a variety of paint media and collage. Her focus is on color, rhythm, and texture while trying to bring her compositions to a feeling of unity. She completed MAT and BFA degrees from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. A fine artist and art educator, Cathy has also worked as a scenic artist painting large scale scenery; and as an illustrator, illustrating board games. Additionally, she enjoys textile design, as well as designing and painting public art projects. In 2012, she was selected to paint and collage her design onto one of the large fiberglass rabbits for the Dedham, MA Public Art Project.
