I was playing with the illusion of space and distance by using various values and color. Have you ever looked through layers of branches on winter trees and seen the tangle? This is loosely based on that as are the circle shapes based on the moon. I was trying to capture the energy and mystery of really noticing/experiencing.

Influenced by nature, Catherine Gruetzke-Blais works in a variety of paint media and collage. Her focus is on color, rhythm, and texture while trying to bring her compositions to a feeling of unity. She completed MAT and BFA degrees from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. A fine artist and art educator, Cathy has also worked as a scenic artist painting large scale scenery; and as an illustrator, illustrating board games. Additionally, she enjoys textile design, as well as designing and painting public art projects.
